We have seen it not only in Iraq, but Israel/Palestine, the Balkans, Ireland/England, and Dafur, to name a few places.

This is exactly what must be fought against. The best way to fight against it is for moderates within in every single one of these tribes to take a stand against its own extremists - regardless of whether that tribe is political, religious, ethnic, racial, or whatever. "Those in my tribe who condone killing, harming, or even lying about (for the purpose of promoting hatred toward) members of another tribe are to be condemned for this."

Though this is easier to accomplish in some quarters than in others, it is no less important.Alonzo Fyfehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05687777216426347054noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16594468.post-1163581129852271462006-11-15T01:58:00.000-07:002006-11-15T01:58:00.000-07:00I think one of the reasons why the violence contin...I think one of the reasons why the violence continues in Iraq is because of the huge numbers of tribes whose animosity towards each other probably goes back thousands of years.

The "control lid" - Saddam Hussein, has been lifted from Iraq. Obviously he controlled in a bloodthirsty and ruthless manner, so I am not about to excuse his methods.

Iraq doesn't have a common identity. It is a created country won through war. It is not surprising to me that people's allegiances are with their tribe and or their religious leader, as this is their history and their culture.

The only history and culture they have as a country called Iraq, is one imposed upon them by the Brits and the allies after they divided up the "war booty" post WW1.

List of the tribes in Iraq
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arab_Tribes_in_Iraqbeepbeepitsmehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12931640447011071849noreply@blogger.com
